Camps/Clinics

FLYLax Pathway

The FLYLax Pathway is a two-tier, player-centric, high-touch, training experience for youth athletes interested in optimally developing their skills and capabilities by attending camps and clinics. Based on the precepts and principles of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model, the approach uses a variety of methods, tools, techniques and concepts that not only promote fun in learning, but also build physical literacy (athleticism), technical competence, and emotional and intellectual proficiency.

The camp and clinic series is designed to serve the needs and interests of youth athletes who chose to play the sport purely for enjoyment and social engagement as well as those who aspire to play collegiately and beyond. Either way, the objective is to encourage lacrosse participation for life. Beyond serving as a pathway for physical activity from infancy through all stages of adulthood, the series sets the stage from youth development through a lifetime of sport engagement.

It is important that athletes and their parents understand that there are stages of development, and specific factors that influence the type, rate, and frequency of activities that are applied for each individual athlete’s development. Unlike the “elite/pro” model which fails to properly train and safely protect youth athletes, our series of camps and clinics carefully constructs and delivers a player-centric experience designed to promote fun in learning and growth in skill and athleticism. The series is a re-imagined and re-designed youth lacrosse development experience that emphasizes:

  • Learning a sport can be equal parts fun and focused;
  • Physical literacy integrated with technical skills development;
  • Strengthened peer relationships;
  • Small-sided games as the preferred training tool;
  • Multiple sport sampling;
  • IQ development through structured and unstructured free play;
  • Late developers are recognized and developed along with early developers.

Regular, progressive enrollment in our series offers a safer and more productive methodology for each youth athlete to reach their own level of capability, passion and purpose. Because there is no such thing as an “elite” 10-, 12-, or even 14-year-old athlete, it is imperative that parents discover that investment in elite/pro programs are too often inordinately expensive, time-wasting, and unproductive. Be assured that enrollment in a FLYLax Pathway program will build skill and competency through high-touch techniques, speed in play, precise decision-making, friendly fun, and unimpeded risk-taking.

Based on mastery before progression, coach, player and parent will collaboratively monitor and synchronize advancement with developmental performance. And gross motor skills are developed before fine motor skills as youth athletes demonstrate age-appropriate competency in athletic movement while attempting more complex object control skills.

Learn-Explore/Activate-Play (LEAP)

Using the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model as the benchmark, the FLYLax Pathway is designed and delivered based on two (2) general principles. Regardless of age, stage, skill-level, or athleticism, all participating athletes will grow and advance by training experiences that promote opportunities to: 1) Learn and Explore; and 2) Activate and Play.  In combination, and over time, these camps and clinics build, reinforce and exploit the range of elements essential to maximum skill level development.

The camps and clinics are:

  • Offered regularly throughout the year and locally-based;
  • Offered as one-day, multi-week, weekend and full week camps (day and residential on-campus summer sessions);
  • Scaled and calibrated - for boys and girls - to any skill or experience level;
  • Delivered by a combination of local, college and nationally-recognized coaches;
  • Low-cost

Activate-Play

This clinic focuses on team-based concepts and game-level activities. Offensive skills and concepts are introduced and covered, and defensive schemes are also taught. The elements of effective transition are presented and delivered, and players learn how to play at maximal speed.

The clinic is organized and structured to introduce the critical concepts to athletes new to the sport as well as reinforce transition elements to the more seasoned lacrosse player. Ages are considered in delivering a properly tailored experience.
